Dominion

“For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.” Romans 6:14

The concept of dominion is a crucial theme in the Bible. Dominion refers to power and authority over a particular area or domain. In the Bible, dominion is often used to describe God’s sovereignty over all creation. However, in Romans 6:14, the Apostle Paul uses the term dominion differently, concerning sin and grace.

The verse reads, “For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.” This verse highlights the power of grace over sin. As believers, we are no longer under the dominion of sin because we have been saved by grace.

This is a powerful message for Christians because it reminds us that we are no longer slaves to sin. We have been set free from the power of sin and death and have been given new life in Christ. This new life is characterized by a desire to live for God and to honor Him with our lives.

Paul goes on to say in Romans 6:15-18 that we are slaves to the one we obey. If we obey sin, we are slaves to sin, but if we obey God, we are slaves to righteousness. This is another way of saying that we are under the dominion of either sin or grace.

As Christians, we have a choice to make. We can either continue to live under the dominion of sin, or we can choose to live under the dominion of grace. Living under the dominion of grace means living in obedience to God and seeking to honor Him with our lives.

Living under the dominion of grace also means that we have access to the power of the Holy Spirit, who helps us to live a life that is pleasing to God. The Holy Spirit helps us to resist sin and to walk in righteousness. This is not something that we can do on our own, but it is something that we can do through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Furthermore, living under grace’s dominion means we have hope for the future. We know that one day we will be with God in heaven, where there will be no more sin or death. This hope gives us the strength and the courage to live for God in the present.

Living under the dominion of grace is not always easy. We are still living in a world that is full of sin and temptation. There are times when we will fall short and make mistakes. But the good news is that God’s grace is always there for us. When we confess our sins and turn back to Him, He is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).

As Christians, we must never forget that we have been set free from the dominion of sin. We no longer have to be slaves to sin because we have been saved by grace. We have a new identity in Christ, and we have been given the power to live a life that is pleasing to God. We must choose to live under the dominion of grace and allow the Holy Spirit to guide us in our daily walk with Christ.

Romans 6:14 reminds us that we are no longer slaves to sin but have been set free by the power of grace. We have a choice about who we will serve and who we will be under the dominion of. Let us choose to live under the dominion of grace and walk in obedience to God. Let us rely on the power of the Holy Spirit to help us in our daily walk with Christ. And let us hold onto the hope that we have for the future, knowing that one day we will be with God in heaven.
